i photographed this wedding with amy free and i have to say that i really enjoyed the experience of being a second shooter! it was great watching amy guide the bride and groom to utter gorgeousness and then i got to capture them from a different perspective. chrissy and ben were married in charlotte & they had a day with perfect sun and just the right temps. chrissy carried herself with so much grace and elegance and i was very fixed on her delicate movements and really enjoyed photographing her! congrats to these two and i wish them many years of happiness!

i am so overwhelmed with inspiration from the last week that i don't even know where to start this post! i had a gut feeling that jose villa's workshop would be a perfect fit for me and it was in more ways than i ever imagined. when i stepped foot on the grounds at the 300 year old hacienda el carmen i looked around and breathed deep all of the rich colors, textures & little nooks and crannies that made this location so unique. i'm not joking that this place was something out of my dreams. brick exposed walls, crumbling stone walkways & miniature doorways. we were given 5 star service by the staff who helped to ensure that our creativity was overflowing with goodness the whole week!
jose brought along a team of unreal talented friends to add areas of expertise to the workshop. i'd like to personally thank every one of these amazing people for sharing a week of laughter and learning with me:
claire pettiebone - claire pettiebone wedding gowns
team hair and makeup - mar from teamhairandmakeup
jill la fleur - wedding planner extraordinaire
matthew johns - insanely amazing styling
jessica claire - california wedding photographer
jose villa workshops - jose villa
head pieces for wedding gowns - etsy headpieces
joel serrato films - breathtaking wedding cinematography
hacienda el carmen
citro modelos
also, big hugs and thanks to lacie who helped make the entire week run smoothly and brightened every day with her warm smiles. oh my lord, lacie, you rock :)
i think one of the biggest things i realized at this workshop is how important it is to continuously be inspired as an artist. that can happen in so many ways and doesn't have to require a trip around the country but i will be much more intentional about keeping my mind and heart refreshed in ways that can be poured into my business from the overflow of my personal joys. here are some of my favorites from the trip...it makes me teary just looking at these and remembering the clean fruity smell of the air in the mornings...

thank you jose, for pouring your heart and soul into your work, for being an amazing person and for constantly laughing and having a smile on your face. you = joy.
xoxoxo! |

oh, i dream about shoots like this. the ones where two little girls, dressed in tights and tutus and ruffles and hats come out to play with me in the forest. jenny was hopeful for a whimsical spin on where the wild things are so of course my mind was spinning with ideas of how to make it happen. we had roughly 15 minutes to shoot as we were dodging rain drops and i wanted to give the girls freedom to roam so i could photograph their natural expressions. lets just say i'm dying over these pictures. say hi to these pretty pixies, harte and gracie. |

| and i want to remember every moment that i'm living with them. the way they love their blankies, the way he puts his feet on mine when i'm cold. the times that we rolled in the grass under the warm sun, the special breakfasts, cheering for first steps & asking for eskimo kisses. i'll look back and remember cheerios stuck on cheeks, rosy lips begging to use my lipgloss & how his eyes dance when he laughs at my dancing in the kitchen. they are just days, but when added up, it is our lifetime. and i'm having the time of my life living it with them. |

i photographed this family when they first moved to lake norman, over a year ago! since that time, they have added a new little munchkin to their family & i was delighted to oogle over him yawning & cooing and taking in his big new world. congratulations to this family on their newest addition!
